Muchas veces me sorprendo cuando leo que internet está haciendo mucho daño a la música. En parte estoy de acuerdo con éstas acusaciones, pues entiendo que no hay criterios de calidad en la música cuando se cuelga sin más en la red, pero por otro lado, si no existiera jamás descubriríamos muchas de esas cosas que son dignas de ser compartidas.
Éste es uno de estos descubrimientos: “Chocolate Bear” (o Cruzo 67)
Ésta vez os traigo, no a un DJ, grupo, remezcla o disco,… aunque está francamente relacionado con el mundo de la electrónica. Pero su relación es más bien de amor total y profundo. Ese mismo cariño que demuestra por la música en general, por algunas películas o videojuegos.
Sin partitura, y de oído, éste joven francés de 19 años, demuestra un gran talento tocando en el piano todas y cada una de las canciones que se pueden ver en su canal de Youtube. Los diferentes estilos, que se tocan cada uno de una manera distinta, y que en ocasiones llegan a resultar demasiado complicados, al menos a mis ojos de pianista nulo.
Canciones de The Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Daft Punk, Yuksek, Vitalic, Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Calvin Harris, Birdy Nam Nam, Erol Alkan, Ratatat, o nuevos éxitos como el Memories de David Guetta (vale, lo reconozco, no es tan nuevo), o el (para mí genial) Barbra Streisand de Duck Sauce (A-Trak y Van Helden) son algunos de los temas electrónicos que toca, pero hay mucho más: AC/DC, The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppeling, Super Mario Bros. o algunas canciones de los videojuegos de Final Fantasy.
Es mejor que lo escuchéis por vosotros mismos…

I usually get surprised when I read that internet is harming the music world. I agree with some parts of these because I understand that there are so less quality criteria in the music that is uploaded to the net, but by the other side, if internet didn’t exist, we couldn´t found some stuff worthy of being shared.
This is one of these discoveries: “Chocolate Bear” (or Cuzco 67)
Here you have not a Dj, group, remix or album… even he´s very related with electro music. But this relationship is rather a love relationship a deep love relationship. The same love he has for music (of all kinds) and some films and videogames.
Without score, and playing by ear, this French guy 19 years old demonstrates his huge talent playing all and every song of those which are shown in his Youtube Channel. Various styles that have to be played each in a different way, and that sometimes became very difficult. At least for me who knows absolutely nothing about playing the piano.
Songs of The Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Vitalic, Daft Punk, Yuksek, Fat Boy Slim, Calvin Harris, Prodigy, Erol Alkan, Birdy Nam Nam, Ratatat, or new releases like Memories of David Guetta (ok, not so new), Barbra Streisand, the incredible song of Duck Sauce (A-Trak and Van Helden) are some of the electro tracks that Chocolate Bear play. But there are a lot: AC/DC, The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppeling, Super Mario Bros. or some Final Fantasy Game songs.
Casi dos años han pasado ya desde que cayera en mis manos el mejor CD que ha caído hasta el momento. Warp y un mes después Romborama significaron un antes y un después en mi manera de entender la música electrónica.
Siempre crecí con sonidos de rock, metal, nu-metal,… Además, siempre he escuchado grupos Punk como Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash,… y algunos españoles también, Siniestro Total, La Polla Records,… esto tiene mucho que ver en cuánto me gustan los Bloody Beetroots.
1977 fue la fecha en que nació Bob Rifo, como indica su tatuaje en el pecho. Como muchos piensan, es extraño que alguien se tatúe su año de nacimiento, pero es que 1977 es un año especial para la música. El año en que el Punk se concibió como tal. El año en que los Sex Pistols sacaron a la luz su primer álbum: Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.
Fue también el año en que murió Elvis Presley y también Marco Bolard. El año de nacimiento de Steve Aoki, del grupo Misfits (también Punk)… En general, un año importante para la música. En todos sus sentidos.
Pero, hago especial hincapié, en lo que significó este año para el Punk, la mayor de las influencias en la figura de Bob Rifo, además de la música dura, electrónica o no, acompañada siempre de los comics, dibujos animados, videojuegos, películas de serie B y, por supuesto, de las bandas sonoras.
Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo comenzó tocando música clásica (Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy,…) en su Venecia natal (Italia). Después esas influencias Punks y rockeras, que después se unirían también al New Wave de los años ochenta, moldean la figura musical de Bob. Más tarde, junto con Tommy Tea, crearían el grupo del que os hablo: The Bloody Beetroots, era enero de 2007.
Imaginad lo que sería juntar los sonidos duros y macarras de Misfits con la Electro naciente a manos de Daft Punk. El resultado es una música agresiva y bastante dura, con mucha personalidad independiente de cada canción, pero muy bailable, divertida y sencillamente, impresionante. Rave, Punk, Rock y Electro unidos en uno.
La influencia de los comics, principalmente de Marvel y de autores italianos como Magnus o Benito Jacovitti, se puede apreciar también en su aspecto en los conciertos, pues siempre llevan unas características máscaras, que recuerdan al alter-ego y villano de Spiderman: Venom.
Pues bien éste sonido, que causó furor desde sus mismos comienzos, hicieron que el sello de Steve Aoki, Dim Mak, les fichara inmediatamente, dentro de ese mismo año. A partir de ese momento no han parado, gira tras gira, remix tras remix, single tras single,… Y con cada uno de ellos he disfrutado, bailado y saltado como no lo he hecho con muchos más.
Remixes de Étienne de Crécy, The Subs, Goose, Proxy… o el último, de The Chemical Brothers. Colaboraciones con autores tan conocidos como The Aston Shuffle, en su Disco-sesión Destroy. ¡Incluso tienen un libro, presentación e historia del grupo como historia fotográfica!
Entre su discografía encontramos:
“I love the Bloody beetroots” (2007), dónde ya demostraban que iban a dar que hablar.
Rombo (2008), EP fantástico dónde comienzan a meter sus ruidos psicodélicos, voces distorsionadas y agudizadas, y sonidos macabros y casi tenebrosos, unidos con unas bases constantes y duras,… puro arte para los que hemos amado el metal, el punk,…
Cornelius (2008) Fue su despegue real, se coló en el Top 100 de descargas desde Itunes, y dio la vuelta al mundo con su provocativo y genial video. La canción en sí no tiene palabras para describirla, aún no me canso de bailarla cada vez que organizamos una fiesta o vamos a discotecas y conciertos.
Finalmente, la colaboración cercana con Steve Aoki, con quién además de la fecha de nacimiento comparte casi todo en cuanto a música, influencias y gustos se refiere, dio lugar a Warp (2009). Este Ep fue el que me hizo conocerles, pues yo conocía a Aoki mucho antes que a TBB. La canción tiene su historia. Como ya os he dicho, Aoki y Rifo nacieron en el 77. Warp tiene tres variantes, está la que hicieron de manera conjunta, que es Warp 1.9; Después, la variante de Aoki, es Warp 7.7, la cual no tiene realmente mucho que ver con la primera, y por último está la variante de Rifo, aka Bobermann, cuyo nombre es Warp 1977, desde mi punto de vista mucho más cercana a la 1.9, pero mucho más agresiva, y malhablada, claro. 🙂
Investigando un poco más, me encontré con Romborama (2009), el que consideran el disco debut del grupo, y que está ya, lleno de colaboraciones con diferentes artistas, Steve Aoki, Vicarious Bliss, el rapero Marracash, The Cool Kids,… Catapultó Warp al puesto 23 en la mayor encuesta mundial de música del año 2009. Disco de colección, imprescindible.
También aperece aquí la canción Fucked From Above 1985, un claro tributo a Death from Above 1985, ahora MSTRKRFT y uno de mis grupos favoritos de siempre,… Además, generan también esos sonidos duros y violentos, pues empezaron como banda de Hard Rock.
La fama de TBB aquí se hizo mucho más notable, algunas de sus canciones fueron incluidas en videojuegos como Need for Speed, Fifa 09, Nba 2k9,… demostrando el fenómeno mundial en que se estaban convirtiendo.
Tras esto, lanzaron Christmas Vendetta: Spares of Romborama también en el año 2009, y éste año, a primeros Domino: Spares of Romborama pt. 2.
Muchas cosas han cambiado éste año para TBB. Para empezar, decidieron hacer un alter-ego del grupo, algo parecido a lo que hacen 2many Djs y Soulwax. Crearon Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, sobre todo de cara a los directos. Así, saldrían con guitarras, batería, teclados y mesas de mezclas, para hacer un grupo de electro-rock, o más bien electro-punk, caracterizando mucho más su sonido y su personalidad. Edward Grinch, se unirá al grupo durante los directos únicamente, tocando la batería y demás percusiones.
Pero eso no es todo. Bob Rifo, siempre ha tenido más alter egos, sí, aún más…
Bob Rifo como tal, intentó sacar adelante un grupo de Punk propiamente dicho, como demuestra su single Kinky Malinki. A mí personalmente me encanta el toque que le dan las guitarras a la tremenda imaginación de Bob, además de su genialidad con la música.
También se le conoce por Bobermann. Quizás por el pintor ruso, aunque yo creo que más bien es la influencia de videojuegos y en este caso el juego de palabras obvio entre Bob y Bomberman. Pues bien, bajo éste otro pseudónimo ha sacado numerosas remezclas tanto de canciones propias como de otros grupos. Os pongo algunos ejemplos debajo.
Y éste mismo año, en Abril, se dio a conocer el grupo Rifoki (Bob Rifo- Steve aoki) un grupo de Rock Hardcore con influencias claras también del Punk, que con canciones muy cortas, prometen dar mucho juego de cara al futuro. Su primer EP: Sperm Donor, con canciones como la de mismo nombre, We are Rifoki, o Zombie Attack, continúan con las ganas de dar caña y de crear un ámbito en sí mismas, quiero decir, crear películas, situaciones y sensaciones con su música.
También tiene colaboraciones con diferentes marcas de ropa, sacando adelante numerosas camisetas, pantalones y demás artículos, como muestra de que el electro se está convirtiendo en algo más que un subgénero musical.
En definitiva, las mil caras de una misma persona, sin menospreciar nunca a Tommy Tea, que para mí es un grande de la música también. Siempre con una base común y en un momento de su carrera envidiable. Esperemos que nunca se bajen de ahí arriba y sigan haciendo las cosas tal cual las están haciendo.
A pesar de que parece que la música Electro se esté disgregando. Pues, como dice Pedro Winters aka Busy P, líder del sello Ed Banger, rechazan los nuevos sonidos hacia los que se mueve la electrónica, y acusa a Los Bloody Beetroots de ser la raíz que está destrozando el sonido electrónico que se creó en Francia de la mano de Daft Punk. A mi, personalmente, me gustan los dos, y no sé por qué uno debería de rechazar al otro. Sin emabrgo, entiendo lo que Pedro dice, al asegurar que no se trata de música Dance como tal, sino que se trata de una evolución del género Rock-Punk.
Para mí, de los mejores, por no colocarles ese primer puesto que siempre da tanto miedo. Imprescindibles y únicos.

Día 2 de diciembre, sala la Riviera en Madrid, primera vez que vienen a España (sin tener en cuenta los festivales) al menos bajo el nombre de TBB Death Crew 77.
Y atentos, porque parece ser que después de la remezcla de New Noise – Refused, TBB ha estado trabajando estrechamente con Dennis Lyxzen, del grupo (International) Noise Conspiracy, y antiguo componente del grupo Refused, ahora disgregado. Se supone que en enero, seguramente para el Big Day Out, TBB sacará nuevo Single, con la colaboración de éste, y el cual les acompañará en el escenario, al menos durante ese festival. Puede ser impresionante.

Almost two years has pass since I first hear the best CD that I have ever heard. Warp, and a month later, Romborama, mean a turning point in my conception of electronic music.
I grew up with rock, metal, nu-metal music… I always listen to Punk groups like Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash,… and another Spanish ones like Siniestro Total, La Polla Records, etc… This has a lot to do with my love for The Bloody Beetroots.
1977 was the year in which Bob Rifo gets born, as it’s said in his chest tattoo. As many people think, it´s strange that anybody tattoos his year-born on himself, but 1977 is a very special year for music. It´s the year in which «Punk» was conceived as such. The year in which Sex Pistols released his first album: Never Mind the Bollocks, Here´s the Sex Pistols.
It´s also the year Elvis Presley or Marco Bolard died. And some others get born: Steve Aoki, Misfits as a group,… So it was an important year for music in every way possible.
But I want to make emphasize what 1977 meant for Punk music, the most important influence in Bob Rifo´s figure. As it does hard music, electronic or not; comics, cartoons, videogames, B-movies and, of course, soundtracks.
Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo began playing classic music (Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy,…) in his home town, Venice (Italy). After this, those Punkie and Rock influences, that would join the New Wave of the 80´s, molded Bob´s music. Some time later, in the end of 2006 and first months of 2007, he will join Tommy Tea and create this group I’m talking about: The Bloody Beetroots.
Imagine what would be joining the hard and tacky sound of Misfits with the Electro music of Daft Punk. As a result we have an aggressive and very hard music, with its own personality and independent for each track, and always very funny, dancing and, simply awesome. Rave, Punk, Rock and Electro in one.
Comic´s influence, mainly Marvel and Italian cartoonists like Magnis or Benito Jacovitti, can be appreciated in their clothes in live shows, as they always wear some characteristic masks that remind us the alter-ego and villainous of Spiderman: Venom.
Well, this sound, that was all the rage since their beginning, made the Steve Aoki Record, Dim Mak, signed them immediately, that same year. For this moment on, they haven´t stopped, tour after tour, remix after remix, single by single…. And with each one of them, I jumped, danced and enjoy as I don´t usually do.
They have remixes of Étienne de Crecy, The Subs, Goose, Proxy,… their last one is a Chemical Brothers one. Collaborations with well-known artists as The Aston Shuffle, in their Session-Album: Destroy. ¡They have also a book, biography and history of the group as a photographic review!
Among their recordings, we could find:
“I Love the Bloody Beetroots” (2007) where they first show that they will set tongues wagging.
Rombo (2008) Fantastic EP in which they began using their characteristic psychedelic sounds, distorted and intensified voices, and their macabre and almost dark noises, joined with some constant and hard bases,… pure arte for those who loves metal, punk…
Cornelius (2008) is their real taking off. It rises to the Top 100 in the ITunes Downloads, and goes around the whole world with its provocative and great video. The track is so amazing that words could not explain it, I can´t stop dancing it whenever and wherever I hear it.
Finally, the close collaboration with Steve Aoki, with whom Bob share age but also music taste and influences, gave as a result Warp (2009). This Ep made me know Bob´s music, as I knew Steve Aoki much more before. The song has some history. As I said, Aoki and Rifo got born in 1977. Warp has three different variations. The one which they made together, Warp 1.9; Aoki´s one, Warp 7.7, not so similar to the first one, and Rifo´s (aka Bobermann) variation, Warp 1977, much more closer to 1.9, but also more aggressive and foul-mouthed, obviously.
Investigating a little more further, I founded Romborama (2009), which is considerate the debut album of The Bloody Beetroots, and that is full of collaborations with different artists: Steve Aoki, Vocarious Bliss, Marracash rapper, The Cool Kids,… It catapulted Warp to the 23 place in the biggest musical poll ranking of 2009. A collection album, indispensable.
It also appears in Romborama the song: Fucked from above 1985, a clear tribute to Death From Above 1985, MSTRKRFT nowadays, one of my favorite groups ever. They also play those dark and violent sounds, as they began as a Hard Rock band.
The fame of TBB made much more important since this album release. Some of these songs was included in videogame soundtracks like Need for Speed, Fifa 09, Nba 2K9,… demonstrating the world phenomenon in which Bloody Beetroots was becoming.
After this, they released Christmas Vendetta: Spares of Romborama, also in 2009, and in the first months of 2010, Domino: Spares of Romborama pt. 2.
A lot of things have changed for TBB this year. In the first place, they decided to make an alter-ego of the group, something like Soulwax-2manyDjs does. They create Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, for the live shows. This way, they always go out on stage with guitars, drums, keyboards and mixers, and get them turned into an electro-rock or electro-punk group, much closer to their personality and music. Edward Grinch joined the group only during these shows, playing drums and percussion.
But that´s not all, folks!
Bob Rifo as such, tried to make a Punk group in all its meanings, as he shows in his video and song Kinky Malinki. I personally love those guitars and the huge Rifo´s imagination, as it does his music genius.
He is also known as Bobermann. Maybe it is owing to the Russian painter, but I think is rather the videogame influence, and the obvious word game between Bob and Bomberman. Therefore, under this pseudonym he released a lot of remixes of both his own songs and other group´s ones. Look at the examples below.
This year, in April, was announced the start of another group: Rifoki (Bob Rifo + Steve Aoki), a hardcore rock punk group, with very short songs but awesome. They promise to raise some eyebrows in the close future. Their first EP: Sperm Donor, with songs like Sperm Donor, We are Rifoki or Zombie Attack, continue with that hard style and try to create a field by itself, I mean, each song creates a film, a situation, sensations with its sound.
They have also collaborations with some brands of clothing, making some T-shirts, jeans and other accessories like belts. Because Electro is more than a musical subgenre.
After all, the thousand faces of the same person, without underestimating Tommy Tea, who is for me a great musician. Always with the same base and in a moment of his career which is, at least, enviable. I hope they never leave the top and I hope they continue doing things as well as they are doing now.
Despite electro music seems to be breaking up. Because, as Pedro Winters (Busy P and Ed Banger Records leader) says, they disagree with the new sounds that electro music is moving into, and he accuses TBB of being the root of this dance music disintegrating, which was created in France promoted by Daft Punk. I personally like them both, and I don´t understand why they have to reject each other (I don’t´ think that TBB do that). But I understand what Pedro says, when he assures that kind of music is not Dance music at all, rather than a Rock-Punk evolution or fusion with electro music.
For me, TBB is one of the best groups ever, if not the best. Unique and awesome.
By the way,
2nd December, La Riviera (Madrid). First time they come to Spain (without taking into account the festivals) at least under the Death Crew 77 name.
And pay attention because after the New Noise (Refused) remix, TBB has been working with Dennis Lyxen of the International Noise Conspiracy group, and former Refused member. It´s supposed that in January, when Big Day Out happens, TBB will release a new single with Dennis collaboration. He will also join them in live shows, at least during that festival. It could be awesome.

Modelado con el piano y de la batería, instrumentos que tocó entre los seis y los catorce años, fue en 1996 cuando el alemán Alexander Ridha, comenzaba su andadura en el mundo de los pinchadiscos. Su evolución, muy cercana a la de su amigo Andreas Meid (más tarde conocido como D.I.M.), fue creciendo con rápidez a medida que sus tremendas dotes le iban haciendo un hueco cada vez mayor en el campo de la música.
Años después, en el 2005, culminaría el final de una época y se iniciaría la siguiente. El cambio de nombre a Boyz Noise, y la creación de un sello del mismo nombre, significaron el inicio de su gran carrera internacional.
Ha realizado numerosos remixes, ha sacado varios singles y también algunos EP bajo otros nombes diferentes como 909d1sco o KidAlex. Pero sin duda, su mayor éxito fue el cosechado por su tremendo disco: Oi Oi Oi (2007) y su revisión del mismo con Oi Oi Oi Remixed (2008).
Ambos discos son tremendas cajas de musica electrónica, house y techno, de tal brillantez que he llegado a escuchar frases como «Boys Noize es la mejor música electro desde Daft Punk». Desde luego, no se puede decir que no tenga parte de razón esa frase, al menos por lo que Alex nos demuestra constantemente.
El año pasado sacó al mercado Power, su último trabajo. Para mi, tiene temas impresionantes, pero está muy lejos de lo que fue el primero.
Tras haber trabajado últimamente con Erol Alkan, sacando Singles como: Waves, Avalanche o la tremendísima Lemonade; Boys Noize prepara un nuevo trabajo, que comienza su andadura con los singles,… que saldrán a la venta el próximo 20 de septiembre, pero que ya podemos escuchar en algunas plataformas: 1010 y Yeah! El motivo de éste trabajo es la celebración de 50 discos de oro de la compañia Boys Noize, donde muchos de ellos son de Alex Ridha.

Molded with the piano and the drums, instruments which he used to play between six and fourteen, it was in 1996 when the german Alexander Ridha opened his path abroad the world of Dee Jays. Then, his evolution, very closer to the one of his friend Andreas Meid (later known as D.I.M.) grew up very fast as his huge talent made room in the music field.
Later, in 2005, he ended a period and began another. He changed his artist name to Boys Noize and he created also Boys Noize Rec. This would be the begining of his international and important career.
He had made lots of remixes, had released some EP under Boys Noize name and also as 909d1sco or KidAlex. But, without doubt, his most important hit was achieved with his album: Oi Oi Oi (2007) and some time after with Oi Oi Oi Remixed (2008)
Both are surprising music boxes of electro, house and techno, so brillant that i heard about him things like: «Boys Noize is the best electro artist since Daft Punk, no one can be alike them». We can´t contradict this phrase, at least taking into account what Alex demostrate with each work, song or album.
Last year, he released Power, his last album. In my opinion it has very good tracks, but it´s a little worst that Oi Oi Oi.
After working with Erol Alkan, making hits like: Waves, Avalanche or the awsome Lemonade; Boys Noize is working in another album, which means the appearance of some singles, that will be on sale next September 20th, but we can listen now: 1010 and Yeah!. And which reason is the 50 gold released of Boys Noize Recs.
I present you Boys Noize who is, for me, one of the best Electro Artist of all time.
Hablamos de un dúo de electro-pop australiano, uno de los grupos que más me han cautivado en los últimos 5 años.
Escribo sobre ellos no porque hayan publicado nuevas canciones o estén de moda actualmente, sino todo lo contrario, porque su música no pasa de moda, siempre está ahí para escucharla de vez en cuando.
Su música podemos dividirla según la velocidad de los sonidos electrónicos en sus temas. Más calidad, tienen aquellas pistas lentas, fluyentes, que provocan un movimiento bamboleante constante en mi cuerpo.
En ambas versiones la voz de Julian Hamilton nos recuerda a esas voces potentes del rock duro, que emergen, como los surfistas por encima de las olas, sobre la base electrónica.
Ambos componentes se formaron estudiando música clásica en el Conservatorio de música de Sydney, donde se conocieron. Allí descubrieron que los dos tenían en común el gusto por el new wave y el pop ochentero, lo cual se aprecia fácilmente en su música, por ejemplo en “Back Blackground” de su primer disco “Beams”, 2005.
Han sido premiado en varias ocasiones: en 2008, ganaron 6 premios ARIA de música, entre mejores productores, y albúm del año. Además su tema “This boy’s in love” fue número uno en descargas en iTunes.
Como curiosidad Will.I.Am de The Black Eyed Peas, contactó con ellos, entusiasmado con su música, mientras estuvo en Australia preparando parte de su último disco “The E.N.D…”.Para saber más de ellos, podéis seguirles en facebook, donde más se hacen sentir en internet.

We’re talking about an electro-pop australian duo, one of the the groups that have captivated me over the past five years.
I’m writing about them not because they have published new songs or they are nowadays in fashion, it`s just the opposite: their music isn’t out of style it has been always there to listen from time to time.
Their music can be divided in order to the velocity of the electronic sounds in their songs. There is more quality in the slow and fluent themes, which induce wobbly movements in my body. In both versions, calm and fast, Julian Hamilton’s voice remember us those great hard-rock voices, that emerge – like surfers above waves – on the electronic base.
Both components were formed studying classic music in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, were they met themselves. There they discovered that had in common the new-wave and 80’s pop tastes, and these are shown easily in their music, for example in “Back Blackground” from their first album “Beams”, 2005.
They have been awarded repeatedly: in 2008, they won 6 ARIA music prizes, as the best producers and album of the year. Although their song “This boy’s in love” was number one in iTunes downloads.
As a curiosity, Will.I.Am of “The Black Eyed Peas”, contacted with them, amazed of their music, while he was in Australia making part of his last album “The E.N.D….”. If you want to know something else about them, you could follow them on facebook, where they will be felt on internet.
El 25 de Junio del año pasado, Michael Jackson, el rey del Pop y todo un icono de la música, murió por un horrible paro cardiorrespiratorio. Lejos de entrar en críticas a su música, que ya conoceis todos, quería señalar que inmediatamente, desde todos los lugares del mundo y desde todos los ámbitos y estilos diferentes, comenzaron a hacerse remixes y versiones de sus canciones, a modo de homenaje por su muerte.
Quiero llamaros la atención sobre una en concreto. La canción es “Man in the Mirror” un numero uno en EEUU en el año de su lanzamiento 1988, pero que no alcanzó las grandes cimas de los Tops ingleses hasta después de anunciar la muerte de Michael, momento en que su música volvió a acaparar los Tops de las listas internacionales.
El remix es de “Das Glow”, como podreis comprobar, o al menos a mi me lo parece, es una canción cercana, nostálgica, y donde transmite el cariño que Das Glow sentía por la música de Michael Jackson y de los Jackson Five.
“Das Glow” es Damien Granier, un moscovita nacido en el 82 y que se quedó viviendo en Paris, por temas de su trabajo, la joyería (1998). En éste momento sólo le gustaba el techno y poco a poco fue abriéndose gracias a los franceses,… Mr Oizo, Daft Punk, Air, Etienne de Crecy,… En 2001 se compró su primera mesa de mezclas, y de ahí a lo que es hoy en día.

25th June 2009. Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop” and, for sure, one of the most important music icon, died by a horrible cardiorespiratory arrest. Far from dare to get inside a musical review of Michael´s music, which is known by all of you, I wanted to say that, inmediately after his death, from all over the world, and from every ambits and different styles, it began to emerge a lot of remixes and versions of his songs, in the manner of tributes.
I wanted to call the attention on one in particular. The song is “Man in the Mirror” a Nº1 in the USA Top list in 1988, its release year, but that never reach the UK top places until a time after Michael´s death anonuncement, when his songs climbed up to the first places of the international´s music lists.
It´s a “Das Glow” remix.As you will see, or at least for me, is a very close song, nostalgic and where is easy to notice the affection that “Das Glow” felt for Michael´s music (and also for Jackson Five).
“Das Glow” is a moscovite, born in 1982. He decided to stay in Paris in 1998 when his job, related with jewlery, took him to the french capital. In this moment, he hates all music but techno. Then, step by step, he began listening to other music thanks to the “french ones”: Mr Oizo, Daft Punk, Air, Etienne de Crecy,… In 2001 he got his first mixing desk, and since then to what he is nowadays.
I hope you enjoy it and I hope you dedicate some minutes to the “King´s” memory.
Si seguís en el futuro el blog con regularidad, podreis daros cuenta, poco a poco, de que soy un enamorado del sello Dim Mak, del alabado (también por mí) Steve Aoki. Precisamente de uno de los últimos fichajes de ésta discográfica es de quién quería hablar.
‘Eka’ y ‘BaRon’ son el dúo francés conocidos como Mustard Pimp (querían llamarse Sylvester Staline pero ya estaba cogido) Se unieron al sello en Julio del año pasado. Ambos siempre han estado unidos a la música. Mientras ‘Eka’ tocaba la guitarra en una banda de metal, ‘Baron’ comenzaba con sus primeros pasos como DJ, sobretodo en el ámbito del techno, hard techno y el acid techno. Menos mal que después decidieron cambiarse al Electro, aunque quizás por eso las canciones de Mustard Pimp, en mi opinión, se centran demasiado en el ritmo de la base, dejando de lado la melodía y resultándome en ocasiones demasiado repetitivas.
Siete años después de que empezaran por separado, en el año 2008, decidieron juntarse bajo el nombre de Mustard Pimp. Sus remezclas de Crookers, Steve Aoki, Partyshank, Stereheroes (con quienes creo que tienen una relación de amistad muy fuerte), les hicieron dar el salto a la fama, que se consolidó un año después cuando firmaron por la discografía de Aoki.
Suelen colgar su música para descargar en Internet, así que no hay demasiados problemas en conseguirla. Sus mixtapes son tan espectaculares, que han tenido más de 150,000 descargas, más aún, Mustard Pimp ha sido capaz de hacer un mixtape de ¡24 horas! Un día completo, que se separa por horas, como si de la serie “24” se tratase, y de quién recibe el nombre: Jack Bauer Mixtape. Cada hora equivale a un tipo de musica diferente de las que les han influido.
Inspirados por el metal, el rock y en general la música dura (Josh Homme, Franz Liszt, Liam Howlett, Shinichi Osawa, Chris Liberator,…) hacen una electrónica muy ecléctica donde tiene cabida todo tipo de sonidos. Por eso, será fácil que te gusten algunas de sus canciones mucho más que otras, que incluso puedes llegar a aborrecer,… Sin embargo, creo que eso demuestra sus múltiples posibilidades, llegando así a muchas más personas. Será complicado que no haya alguna canción suya que no te guste mucho. Demuestran que la música es algo global y que todas tienen su relación (menos el minimal y el reggae, que les dan, en sus palabras, ganas de subirse al escenario a matar al intérprete).
El album debut de éstos chicos fue “Oh La La Satan” (Crux Rec.) en 2008, y el mes después sacaron su segundo EP Raging Blood (Idiot House Rec.). Siguieron en 2009 con su RER EP, un disco dedicado al tren de cercanías francés, primero que sacaron en Internet. En Julio se unieron a Dim Mak con quien sacarían los singles “Cherry” y “Kiwi”.
Ahora, van a sacar un nuevo single “Rock, Paper, Scissors” en Junio de éste año. Espero poder escribir una reseña el día que salga. ; )
Stoney Roads (de Dim Mak) los describió como “los Beetroots pero mejores”. Para mí, más que un atrevimiento, una estupidez. Pero es que yo tengo devoción por TBB, y ya os digo, que hay gustos para todo. Lo que no puedo negar es que suenan espectaculares y que desde sus inicios con Dim Mak, que fue cuando conocí su trabajo, he encontrado canciones suyas buenísimas,… aunque otras se me hacen un poco pesadas. Es cuestión de escuchar y encontrar las que te gusten.

‘Eka’ and ‘Baron’ are the french duo known as Mustard Pimp (they first wanted to be called as Sylvester Staline, but it was already taken) They joined Dim Mak people last July. Them both had been connected with music. While ‘Eka’ played the guitar in a metal group, ‘Baron’ took his first steps as a DJ, mainly in techno, acid techno and hard techno music. Thank goodness that he decided to change to electro music, but the Mustard Pimps songs are, in my opinion, very focused on the rhythm and the base, and they brush aside the melody and coming out to be very repetitious sometimes.
Seven years later than their begining, on 2008, they decided to join under Mustard Pimp name. They began making remixes of Crookers, Steve Aoki, Partyshank, Stereheroes (with which they have a very close relationship, i think) and this remixes makes them known to the whole world. Their fame consilidated when they finally signed up for Dim Mak.
They used to upload their music to be able to be downloaded on the net, so there are not many problems to get it. Their mixtapes are so awsome, that they had over 150,000 downloads, furthermore, Mustard Pimp had made a 24 hours mixtape! A whole day, separated by hours as “24” TV serie does. This serie gives it name to the mixtape: Jack Bauers Mixtape. Each hour would be a specific style hour.
Inspired on metal, rock and hard music in general (Josh Homme, Franz Liszt, Liam Howlett, Shinichi Osawa, Chris Liberator,…) they make electronic music but very eclectic, and all type of sounds have a place. It´s easy that you love at least a pair of tracks of Mustard Pimp, but you can also despise others. They demostrate the multiplicity they can create, being able to reach more listeners, and diferent ambients. It´s difficult that they don´t have a track that you love too much. They understand music as something general, and that each style can be related to any other. (But minimal and reggae that makes them feel, in their own words, angry and feels like having the DJ killed)
The debut album of Mustard Pimp was “Oh la la Satan” (Cruz Rec.) in 2008, and the following month they released Raging Blood, their second EP (Idiot House Rec.) In 2009 came out RER EP, an album dedicated to the French local train, and the first album uploaded to the net. In July 09 they signed up with Dim Mak, and released the singles “Cherry” and “Kiwi”

Stoney Roads (Dim Mak) describe them as “the Beetroots but better”. In my opinion, that is, more than a fowardness, a stupidity. But I´m a TBB devoted, and I said it before, that is a matter of taste. What I can not deny is that they sound awsome, and since their beginings with Dim Mak, when I first be aquainted with their work, I found out a lot of incredible tracks and mixes, but I found also pretty tiresome songs. You should listen a lot to find out “your songs”.
El buen material que hacen es usado también por otros muchos y buenos artistas para hacer remezclas. Salen verdaderas obras de arte, que en muchos casos me acaban gustando más que las propias originales. Os dejo un par de muestras, aunque lo mejor sería que escucharais ambas y me dijerais que opináis vosotros.
The incredible material that these guys made, is used by other well-known and good Djs and artists to make remixes. Some of them are really masterpieces, and they are usually better than the originals for me. I show you a pair of them, the best you can do it´s listening them both and then tell me your opinion.

Designer Drugs (Michael Vincent Patrick y Theodore Nelson) hacen música sintética que, al igual que aquellos con su mismo nombre, te inyectan esa energía que hace que tu cuerpo sienta la necesidad de moverse sin control, la cabeza ladee de un lado a otro sin parar, sientas que cada vez tienes más y más necesidad, que te engancha y hace que veas el mundo de otra manera.
Entre sus influencias no están solo los grupos electrónicos más conocidos como Daft Punk, sino también un montón de música pop y grupos no-electro como The Horrors, Slowdrive o The Germs.
A base de sonidos rotos, beats impresionantes, y ritmos melódicos, perfectamente mezclados, la música de éstos chicos de Philadelphia (Estados Unidos), etiquetada como “electro-house e indie” enloquecen cada pista de baile y discoteca por la que pasan. Asegurando horas de baile y diversión nocturna. Ejemplos como “Drop Down”, “Zombies” o “Back Up in This” servirán para explicar el tipo de música que hacen.
Designer Drugs (también DD) siempre se ha caracterizado por un rollo oscuro y siniestro que bien podemos ver, no sólo en sus canciones, de claros sonidos lúgubres e inquietantes, sino también en sus videos, como las imágenes de cementerios, cuero y trajes de bodas que se pueden ver constantemente en “Drop Down” (me encanta esa mezcla de negro y blanco). Pero tienen otro lado ochentero y «dancero» que contrarresta perfectamente al oscuro.
No sólo sus canciones y videos son impresionantes, y de verdad lo digo, completamente enganchantes. También lo son sus remixes, siempre de grandes nombres como Annie, Thieves Like Us, Fischerspooner o su último remix de Scanners. Aunque ellos aseguran que prefieren las de canciones rápidas porque se divierten más, como la de Fake Shark Real Zombie o la de Little Boots. Meros ejemplos de los más de 25 remixes que tienen a sus espaldas.
Gran, gran recomendación para aquellos que amamos la fiesta, que la vemos como una necesidad y para aquellos a quienes les gusta que pongan un poco de “trallita” por la noche. Si no has ido a una fiesta de DD, siempre sentirás que falta algo por vivir,… a mi me pasa…
Después de un largo tour éste verano por todo el país estadounidense, SACARÁN DISCO EL 31 DE AGOSTO y luego empezarán otro tour. No paran. Y nosotros no queremos que lo hagan.

Among their influences there are not only electro groups, like Daft Punk, but also a lot of pop music and non-electro groups as The Horrors, Slowdrive or The Germs.
Based on dirty and broken sounds, awsome bets, and melodic rhythms, quite right mixed, this guy´s music whose origins are Philadelphia (U.S.), tagged as “electro-house and Indie” drives mad each dance floor or pub in which they play. They means dancing and funny hours guaranteed. Some examples are “Drop Down”, “Zombies” or “Back Up in This”, which serve us to explain what type of music they make.
Designer Drugs (DD also) has been always distinguished by his dark and sinister style, that we can easily perceive, not only in their songs with distressful and macabre sounds, but also in their videos, as graveyards, leather and strange wedding dresses in “Drop Down” ( I love that Black and White mixture)
But not only their songs and videos are awsome, and I really say it, completely hooking. So are their remixes, always of big names as Annie, Thieves Like Us, Fischerspooner or their last remix of Scanners. They say that they prefer quick songs because it´s funny to remix them. These are, for example, Fake Shark Real Zombie or Little Boots´ ones. Just a few pieces of their more than twenty five remixes. But thay have also a 80´s side which balance the dark one.
A big, big recommendation for those who loves party, that see parties like a way of life, and those who likes some dirty sounds at night. If who haven´t gone to a DD party, who will always feel there´s something left (pending) to live,… that happends to my by the way,…
Alter their long tour around the hole U.S., they WILL HAVE ALBUM RELEASE ON AUGUST 31st and then another tour will begin. They don´t stop. We don´t want them to do it.
