Cyberpunkers – Italian Revenge

Llevo mucho tiempo queriendo escribir sobre Cyberpunkers. Casi desde el principio de la página. Geniales músicos del HardElectro y también del Fidget, y del “Rave-Punk”, al menos desde mi punto de vista. Pero es lo que tiene ser italiano…

Todos o casi todos sabéis que me encanta el género Electro y también el Fidget. Ambos géneros se caracterizan por la repetición de algunas voces, la unión con diversos géneros como el UK Garage, el Techno o el Hip Hop y sobretodo, por los cambios repentinos de ritmos o entre elementos, los numerosos loops y la fuerza con la que caen en la pista de baile. Sin embargo lo que distingue a uno y a otro es la introducción del tiempo como un nuevo elemento. Buscar más el efecto Gtronic en la canción antes que los Efectos Analógicos. Quizás por eso Warp (Traducido como Distorsión del tiempo) sea el máximo estandarte del Fidget.

Pero centrémonos en el grupo.

Corría el año 2006 cuando estos dos italianos se juntaron para reventar las pistas bajo el nombre de “Cyberpunkers”. Su nombre proviene de su gusto por el género Cyberpunk caracterizado en novelas como Neuromante de William Gibson; Matrix de los hermanos Wachowski; Blade Runner de Ridley Scott (¿Sueñas los androides con ovejas mecánicas? Philip K. Dick) y, aunque muchos no lo crean, el juego de rol Cyberpunk 2020, que fue lo que les unió por primera vez.

El estilo les gustó mucho a los dos y lo escogieron como temática cuando empezaron a hacer música. Es algo así como su fuente de inspiración. Teniendo en cuenta la agresividad del Cyberpunk, la tristeza, melancolía y sentimientos oscuros en general que tiene una sociedad marcada por la decadencia y la degeneración; la música no podía ser de otro modo que tal cual la hacen: Dura, Agresiva, marcado por los ritmos fuertes que hay escondidos tras melodías de energía marcada. Los gritos, la desesperación y la distorsión de la música mostrando su lado más degenerado y a la vez más divertido.

Empezaron tocando en el “De Sade Club” de Milán. Y como el resto de artistas de Italia, se le notan influencias muy alejadas del género Dance. Desde Chemical Brothers hasta Beastie Boys, Korn, Nirvana, System of a Down, Jamiroquai o grupos italianos como The Punkreas.

Mezclando y creando la música con sintetizadores digitales y con pedales de distorsión de guitarras, se muestran orgullosos de crear todas las canciones íntegramente por ellos, tanto en la producción como en las mezclas y post producciones.

Es también importante el hecho de que tienen un programa de radio semanal llamado “Flash in Punk” en el cual dan a conocer tanto la música electrónica actual como sus canciones y remixes, bajo la voz robótica y distorsionada de lo que se podría considerar un cyborg. Se pueden descargar algunas de sus sesiones de manera gratuita desde internet, y la verdad es que en éstas ya se nota porqué están llamados a dar mucha caña.

En los escenarios se esconden también tras sus máscaras. En el caso de cyberpunkers, imitan a los cyborg que salen en las novelas y en las películas que vieron de jóvenes, pero más allá de eso, lo que muestran es la posibilidad de la mezcla entre lo mecánico y lo biológico, acercando las máquinas sintetizadoras aún más al Dj y al público, si eso es posible.

Entre sus canciones encontramos I Needed to Go, la grandísima OMG, o Check this Out.

Por ejemplo, en ésta última, si vais al minuto 1:20 os daréis cuenta de lo que os comentaba al principio sobre los cambios de ritmo y la música electro. Es música rock distorsionada y mezclada con sintetizadores, es sencillamente una pasada.

Dicen que no van a sacar disco de momento. Quieren crecer como artistas. Ver mundo, aprender y prepararse para ser capaces de hacerlo de aquí a unos años. Al contario que pasa con Busy P, Cyberpunkers también considera el género Fidget y Hardcore de los Bloody o de ellos mismos, como algo “Electro” que también puede ser cercando al Dance. Por muy alejados que estén de Daft Punk en cuanto al resultado músical, no pueden negar que es una de sus máximas influencias, y asi lo hacen saber ellos.

Os dejo aquí un par de canciones, para que abráis boca y, como yo, adoréis el género italiano. No sólo de Francia vive el electro.

I wanted to write about Cyberpunkers for a long time, almost since the beginning of the blog. Amazing Hard Electro artists, and also categorized in Fidget and “Rave-Punk”, that´s my opinion at least. But this is how Italian sounds…

All of you, or almost all, know that I love Electro Sound, and Fidget House too. Both genres have voices repetitions, mixing styles like UK Garage, Techno, Hip Hop or Punk; and, above all, the sudden rhythm changes between elements, the lot of loops that they introduced and the strength in they show into the dance-floor. However, the thing that distinguishes one thing from another is the introduction of time as a new element. Fidget looks for Gtronic effect more than the analog effects. Maybe that´s the reason why “Warp” is the most known Fidget track.

But let´s focus on the group.

It was 2006 when this pair of Italian guys joined to burst the clubs under the name of “Cyberpunkers”. It came from the love they have to the entire Cyberpunk genre. Neuromancer book of William Gibson, Matrix films of the Wachowski Bros.; Ridley Scott´s Blade Runner (Do androids dream of electric sheep? Philip K. Dick) and, believe it or not, from the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG, that bring them together for the first time.

They both loved the style and decided to make these themes part of their vision when they began making music. It´s something like their source of inspiration. Having in mind the aggressively of Cyberpunk, the sadness, melancholy and dark feelings that the decadence and depravity of the society have; music can´t be made in another way. Hard, aggressive, with strong rhythms hiding behind energized melodies. Shouts, desperation and music distortions showing his most degenerated and funny side.

The started in “De Sade Club” at Milan. And, as the rest of Italian artists, they have influences that are far from Dance or Electro genres: Chemical Brothers, Beastie Boys, Korn, Nirvana, System of a Down, Jamiroquai or Italian groups like The Punkreas.

Mixing and producing music with digital synthesizers and with guitar distortion pedals, they are proud of making their song entirely by themselves, production, mixing and post-production.

It is also important the fact that they have a weekly radio program called “Flash in Punk” in which they show the Electro actuality and, of course, their own songs. They use a robotic voice that could be considered a Cyborg. It can be free downloaded some of these programs, and I recommend to do it because they are amazing.

They hide behind a mask in live shows also. They have that Cyborg costume of those semi-humans, semi- machine guys that appear in the films and books they read when they were young. But, more than this, they try to show that mixing between the mechanics and biologic, bringing together the synthesizer machines even more to the Djs and the crowd.

Listen to this one and in 1:20 you can found out what I was saying about rhythm changes and electro music. It´s rock music distorted and mixed with synthetizers, it´s just sick.

They say that Cyberpunkrs won´t release an album by this moment. They want to grow up as artists, see the world, learn and prepare themselves to be capable of do it two years (more or less) from now. Contrary to what Busy P says, Cyberpunkers consider that Fidget and Hardcore that Bloody Beetroots almost produce, it´s an Electro Genre that can be also close to Dance style. No matter how far they seem to be from Daft Punk style, they can´t deny that they are one of their most important influences. And that´s exactly what Cyberpunkers say.

Let´s give you something to hear, to taste the style and love the Italian electro music as much as I do. Electro does not live by France alone.
